Highway 30: Honoapi'ilani Hwy.
The Honoapi'ilani Hwy; Highway 30; is a single lane Highway with speed limits ranging from 55 mph to 35 mph. The Honoapi'ilani Highway circles the upper west side of Maui and is the travel artery connecting the towns of Wailuku, Ma'alaea, Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Honokowai, Kahana, Napali and Kapalua. Expect to encounter some pretty heavy traffic in the morning form 7:00 to 10:00 AM and again in the afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Highway 30; Honoapi'lani Hwy connects with Highway 31 (Pi'ilani Hwy) which takes you to the south towards Kihei and Wailae. It also connects with Highway 380 (Kuihelani Hwy) which takes you toward Kahului.

Highway 31: Pi'ilani Hwy.
The Pi'ilani Hwy; Highway 31 is a two-lane Highway with a 40 mph. speed limit. Actual speeds vary from 45-60+ mph. It runs along the southern coastline of Maui parallelling South Kihei Road, and is the travel artery connecting the towns of North Kihei, South Kihei, Wailea and Makena. Piilani Highway connects to Highway 30 (Honoapi'ilani Hwy) in Maalaea. If you turn left, you'll be headed toward Maalaea Harbor, Lahaina and all points west. If you take a right you'll get to Wailuku. Rule of thumb: if you're travelling from Kihei to Lahaina, just keep the ocean on your left.

Highway 311: Mokulele Hwy.
The Mokulele Hwy; Highway 311 has speed limits ranging from 55 mph to 35 mph. It runs through the center of Maui and is the travel artery connecting the towns of Kihei and Kahului. Expect to encounter some traffic in the morning from 7:00 to 10:00 AM and again in the afternoon from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Mokulele Highway connects with Highway 31 (Pi'ilani Hwy) which will take you towards Wailea if you turn left, and towards Ma'alaea if you turn right.

Highway 36 and 360: Hana Hwy.
The Hana Hwy; Highway 36 and 360 has a short two lane section that narrows down into a single lane Highway. The speed limits range from 55mph down to 20 mph. The Hana Hwy moves along the North shore of Maui and continues along the East shore. This is the travel artery that connects the towns of Kahului, Paia, Haiku and Hana. Expect to encounter heavy traffic in the morning from 7:00 to 9:00 AM and again in the afternoon from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The Hana Highway connects with Highway 380 (Kuihelani Hwy) which will take you towards Lahaina, and Kihei if you turn left. It also connects to Highway 37 (Haleakala Hwy), which will take you to Makawao, Pukalani, Kula and Haleakala Crater.

Highway 37: Haleakala Hwy.
The Haleakala Hwy; Hwy 37 is a single lane Highway that switches to a two lane Highway. In the morning hours it is a single lane going up and two lane coming down. In the afternoon it is a single lane coming down and two lanes going up. The speed limits will range from 55 mph to 35 mph. This is the travel artery that connects the towns of Makawao, Pukalani, Kula and Haleakala Crater. Expect to encounter heavy traffic in the morning from 7:00 to 10:00 AM and again in the afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Haleakala Highway connects to Highway 36 (Hana Hwy) which will take you towards Kahului if you turn left and toward Paia if you turn right. As you are going up the mountain, Highway 37 will become the Kula Hwy. Haleakala Hwy will fork off to the left and become Highway 377. Farther up the Mountain Haleakala Hwy; 377 will become Highway 378 which will continue all the way up to the crater.
