GET OUT ON THE WATER!

So what do you want to do... snorkeling? scuba diving? dinner sails? sunset sails? Learn to surf? Submarine rides? Maui's got it. If you're into the water, Maui is truly a playground for all ages.

98% of all ocean-bound trips leave from two major harbors on Maui. The busiest is Lahaina harbor on the island's western shore. This is ideal for people staying in Lahaina (obviously), Kaanapali, Kapalua, Napili, and Kahana. The other harbor is located further south in Maalaea, and is closer for those staying in Kihei, Wailea and Makena. If you're staying upcountry, Maalaea is closer. Check out the maps page for a visual.

One of the most popular activities on Maui is snorkeling, but if that thought makes you nervous and you still want to experience Maui's marine life, You might consider a submarine ride. Or even a visit to the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium.

During the winter, there's whalewatching. Humpback whales travel to Hawaii from Alaska to mate and give birth to their young, and can be seen between the months of December through April. The best months are February and March. Year-round you have a chance of catching a glimpse of the endangered green sea turtle, dolphins, and yes, even sharks.
