If you've had enough of the water there's lots to do on land, too. Energetic visitors to Maui might want to try a bike ride down Maui's Haleakala Volcano. Slightly passive types should consider a Maui horseback ride (well, your butt and thighs will still probably feel it in the morning), and then, or course, there's the Maui Luau -- this is great for EVERYONE!!
If there's something you want to do on your Maui vacation that I didn't mention here, feel free to contact me and I'll see what I can do!
Here's the tips for the activities I mentioned above:
Luaus are a traditional celebration. They are a gathering of family and friends for some special occasion. The food is always plentiful and the entertainment non-stop.
During yourmaui vacation, take advantage and go see one of the shows while you are here. You will learn about everything from the preparation of the food to the history of the different nations that make up the Polynesian culture in Hawaii.
All the luaus on Maui offer island dishes and traditional food that you might be more comfortable with. When will you ever get the opportunity to try lomi lomi salmon, poi, kalua pig or the other special dishes of the islands?
The entertainment is also out of this world. The graceful moves and the speed in which the dancers can do them. The Hawaiian history you will learn in the hulas and chants. The stories are narrated for you to follow along.
Everyone coming to Maui should celebrate their arrival by attending a Hawaiian luau!
Your decent down the Maui volcano will start at the rim of the 10023-foot volcano Mt. Haleakala. Your group will be followed closely by a "chase van." The group's guide will have you stop at some of the most incredible vistas Maui has to offer. After a breakfast or lunch stop you will finish your ride with a decent all the way to sea level.
This is an activity that can be done nowhere else in the world. The sunrise (if you opt for that trip) from atop Mt. Haleakala Crater on Maui is truly one of the wonders of the world. Best of all, the ride down is really a coast down.
Dress in layers so you can peel of clothing as it heats up on the way down. Long pants, sweatshirts, closed-toed shoes and sunglasses are essential on this trip. Round trip transportation is provided on most trips. Maui's volcano bike ride is an adventure you'll talk about for years to come.
There are riding stables and working ranches on every side of Maui. Each offers very unique rides and varying lengths of rides depending on your desires. They are equipped to handle anyone from the beginner to the seasoned expert rider.
You are definitely going to need a pair of long blue jeans for horseback riding on Maui. You dont want to get all scratched up. You dont need riding boots but a pair of closed-toed shoes is mandatory. Tennis shoes are a good bet.
A lot of horseback companies on Maui will not allow riders under the age of 18. If you've got someone in the group under 18 I will try to find something that will work for them.
There are not that many riding stables on Maui and they do get full on the more popular rides, so booking in advance is a really good idea.
